Course Overview

The Scottish Housing Regulator (SHR) was created by the Housing (Scotland) Act with the objective of safeguarding and promoting the interests of current and future tenants, homeless people and other people who use the services provided by social landlords. All previous regulatory arrangements were removed by The Housing (Scotland) Act 2012. This course gives social landlords and their tenants an overview of the new regulatory framework for social housing in Scotland.

On completion of this course you will understand:

  • The new regulatory framework for social housing in Scotland, introduced in April 2012
  • Which parts of the regulatory framework apply to which housing provider
  • The principles upon which Scottish Housing regulation is based
  • The approach of the Independent Scottish Housing Regulator to the application of the standards
  • What will happen when social landlords fail to comply with the required standard
