Course Overview

All NHS organisations are required to put infection prevention and control and basic hygiene at the heart of good management and clinical practice, and must ensure that appropriate resources can always be allocated. Furthermore, all healthcare workers, regardless of their professional backgrounds and status, have a duty of care to their patients and preventing infection forms part of that duty of care.

The overall aim of this course is to provide an overview of the key elements of Infection Prevention and Control and introduce you to some of the things that can be done to improve its control within your organisation.

On completing this course you should:

  • Understand why infection prevention and control is so important
  • Understand infection prevention and control within primary care, acute care and mental health care
  • Know the importance of correct hand hygiene procedures
  • Know the importance of using appropriate personal protective equipment
